PlayWorks is a Nottingham based charity providing a wide range of play services to families, professionals, organisations and students with the aim to improve play provision for children and young people in the city. The scope of their work is huge, including training, workshops and support, volunteer and corporates opportunities, room and equipment hire, membership and their famous ScrapStore selling craft and art supplies.
The main objectives for the new PlayWorks website were to modernise the organisation's online presence, help facilitate administration work involved in selling items and memberships and provide a whole new CMS and e-commerce system which could be managed by the PlayWorks team.
Using the existing PlayWorks branding, we added custom illustration and created new layouts for the various sections which are responsive for mobile, tablet and desktop screens. Clearer navigation and the robust ExpressionEngine content management system allows PlayWorks to add new pages with images, downloads and videos to all of the general page sections and news archive. The clever home page controls allows PlayWorks to highlight certain areas of their work and shop products/categories and to switch on and off the events calendar depending on their upcoming schedule.
Customers may purchase ScrapStore or Art Shop items as well as book and pay for events and training via the PlayWorks online shop, which is also fully manageable by the team. An additional e-commerce feature is the membership sign-up facility and online membership accounts, which was a key feature in helping PlayWorks to increase their revenue and decrease their time spent on administration. Vistors can choose the appropriate level of membership, pay online, manage their own subscription and account and access member-only content all in a few steps.
