Festival of Social Science 2023 Case Study
For the fourth year running we are delighted to be the web partners for the Festival of Social Science. The theme of the 2023 festival is 'lifelong wellbeing', exploring mental and physical health at all ages and celebrating the 75th anniversary of the NHS.
This year, with even more participating partners and events taking place over the longer festival period, we have focused much of our time and resources into supporting the Festival Manager and partner administrators, ensuring each event has been added accurately and using best practice in accessibility and usability.
The calendar of events contains over 350 workshops, talks, exhibitions, performances and more. The search and filtering facility has been refined and boosted, providing an even easier way for visitors to search for different types of events based on target age group, audience, topic, format and so on. Additionally, partners are co-hosting events for the first time this year, which is also reflected in the event details and built into the CMS area for partner admins to easily manage themselves.
A new feature that was added after the 2022 festival and is now in full use is the secure Partners area. This is a separate but related site which allows partners to log in and access resources and information relating to the festival, such as important meeting dates, guidance for event leaders, a PR and comms toolkit, evaluation documents and logos and illustrations.
As before, we collaborated with our colleague and illustrator Thoughts Make Things to bring this year's design and social media assets, keeping it in line with the Economic and Social Research Council's existing branding, meeting the highest accessibility standards and giving it a distinct identity from previous years' websites.
